Samar and Joel’s engagement session at Bethells Beach was one of my favourite pre-wedding shoots ever. It was a little while ago actually, and the first time I shot at Bethells Beach. We headed out on a blustery but surprisingly mild November’s evening and the light couldn’t have been more glorious. And these two were just so happy and loved up, it was a total joy to photograph them!

Like most of my couples, Samar and Joel were feeling a little nervous about having their photos taken, and they were keen to keep their shoot really relaxed and natural. So we went for a walk on the beautiful deserted beach, I gave them a few ideas every now and then, and magic was created all by itself, as it usually happens. ❤

If you’re thinking of having an engagement shoot in Auckland, the West Coast beaches are some of my favourite locations. Bethell’s is beautiful and usually quite empty. My other favourites are KareKare and North Piha. I love the wild wide open space and peaceful and raw mood of these beaches - it’s quite incredible that Auckland City is less than an hour’s drive away.
