Susan and Adam's wedding at Mudbrick, Waiheke

Waiheke wedding photography

Susan and Adam’s Waiheke wedding was my first ever time to shoot at Mudbrick Vineyard - and what a gorgeous day it was. I had previously met these two for their spring engagement session at Shakespeare Regional Park, where we were constantly dodging crazy windy rain showers, so the calmer weather for their wedding was much welcomed.

We started off the day at a lovely bach down in Oneroa, where Susan was getting ready with her bridesmaids and the mums, while my second shooter Mala was out taking getting-ready photos of the boys.

While the views from the Lodge up the hill at Mudbrick are spectacular, I personally prefer the lavender terraces as the ceremony site. The colours and textures are just gorgeous, and on a sunny day, it’s not quite as blindingly bright and squinty. I love all the variety of backdrops at Mudbrick, and encourage my couples to allow at least 45 minutes for their bridal photos, so we can take in as much as possible. Walking up along the woods towards the trig point is so worth it, and depending on the time of year, you get a beautiful wild meadow up there too.

And then there’s the little bit of pretty woods further down and various buildings that can be used creatively as backdrops, including the little greenhouse, so lots to have fun and experiment with.

Dinner at Mudbrick Restaurant is always a treat. I love the golden hour light coming in through the windows, and sometimes the most spectacular sunsets. We didn’t get one of those for Susan and Adam, but you can check out my blog about Mario and Farah’s Mudbrick wedding the following summer for sunset shots.
